Internship Job Summary is looking for
Virtual Design Construction (VDC/BIM) Interns for the upcoming Summer Internship Program! As a valued member of our BIM/VDC team, you will gain hands-on experience in learning how to leverage the use of Building Informational Modeling (BIM) technologies through innovative project management methods, including model data extraction for quantity takeoffs and estimating purposes, constructability reviews, assist with design coordination using automated clash detection methods, and construction sequencing animations for pre-construction planning. The internship will offer opportunities to support team members and bring value by recognizing challenges early and planning ahead for important project activities.
What You Will Do: As a
VDC/BIM Intern , you play a crucial part in supporting the construction project team. Primary daily responsibilities of this role include, but not limited to:
- Read and interpret drawings and specifications.
- Works with the following core software; Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD.
- Develop 3D models from 2D documents in Revit.
- Understands complexity of BIM beyond clash detection.
- Assist project teams through MEP coordination in accordance with standard processes and best practices; including using management tracking tools.
- Become proficient in using BIM for 3D Visualization and clash detection.
- Assists in driving project deadlines.
- Communicate with all parties; designers, trade contractors and Christman staff to ensure BIM processes are aligned with project goals and processes.
- Assists team through bid process front end docs, process AE models, and communicate with bidders.
- Process AE models for company's use.
- Successfully incorporates specialty BIM scope into project workflow (e.g. 3D laser scanning).
- Become proficient in using BIM for 4D Scheduling, for 5D estimating with the Project Planning Group peers, and 6D for Facility Management.
- Become proficient in creating marketing graphics, renderings, and animations.
- Works with design team during preconstruction to provide BIM-enabled constructability review.
- Assists VDC group updating and maintaining document standards and processes.
What You Bring to the Team: Required Education and Experience
- Active, full-time Sophomore-Senior or above level student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Previous work or internship experience in the commercial construction industry is preferred.
- Shows participation and/or leadership roles in student organizations or extracurricular club activities.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA

Work Environment and Physical Demands: The majority of work is completed outside at the construction site and in an office trailer where the project is monitored, and daily decisions are made about construction activities. The position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. The job requires the wearing of protective equipment when on the construction site (hardhats, safety glasses, and highly visible clothing). Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons.
