Job Purpose The Project Controls Senior Planner will develop and oversee the schedule management of complex gas construction projects. Utilizing Primavera P6, the Senior Planner will report on budgets, monitor, maintain, update, and apply project controls techniques to ensure scope, schedule, and budget adherence throughout the Network Development Process. The Senior Planner obtains information, provides analysis and recommendations to drive and support project goals; performs cost and schedule forecasting, Contractor schedule analysis to detect and identify contractor slippage, monitoring and control activities including the preparation of schedule and cost performance reports, variance reporting, and special studies; and evaluates and reports the impact of scope changes and/or productivity changes and recommends corrective actions. Key Accountabilities Accountable for building and developing project schedules across a portfolio using the agreed work breakdown structure to support Engineers, Project Development, Project Managers, and Resource Planning. Progress each project every month to ensure all projects are monitored for project controls in line with the reporting cycle, checking accuracy, quality, and consistency of data. Accountable for using the schedule and forecast to review project cost/schedule integration throughout the Network Development Process. Ensure schedule data is accurate for reporting milestones, planned value, earned value data, % completed on projects, and project commentaries. Provide expert technical input and define policy on the best way of using the Primavera tool to model projects. Oversee and support the activities of other team members, providing advice and coaching as necessary. Lead Project Controls team in training, development, and quality control/quality assurance efforts. Represent the Project Controls team as a subject matter expert. Develop and refine new processes and procedures to ensure good schedule health and Dashboard reporting. Assist Project Managers with evaluations and refinement of project cost, cash flows, and budgets throughout the project’s life cycle. Utilize information such as bids, project scope changes, invoices, and labor/contractor costs to perform monthly project forecasting. Provide detailed project and program management cost analysis reports to Project Managers, Engineering, Resource Planning, and key stakeholders. Evaluate and report the cost impact from scope changes and/or productivity changes and recommend corrective actions. Analyze project estimates and actuals to establish accurate historical project data for future use. Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required Good leadership and team management. The ability to support, communicate, and effectively develop working relationships with staff at all levels. Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Project/Construction Management, or a related field, along with 3-5 years of experience in Project Controls/Scheduling; or 6-10 years of relevant experience in Project Controls/Scheduling. Proficiency in using Primavera P6 for creating project schedules, verifying contractor claim analysis, and tracking progress using a predefined work breakdown structure. Extensive experience in schedule development and analysis, including milestone management, critical path analysis, float and time risk allowance, and earned value methodologies. A strong personal initiative, integrity, and the ability to effectively interact with company personnel, contractors, and regulatory representatives. Familiarity with project controls techniques and common scheduling challenges is essential. Proficient in Microsoft Power BI, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. A valid driver’s license is required, with a safe driving history that complies with National Grid’s Safe Driver policy. Ability to work in a hybrid schedule as per company requirements.
