Position Overview: George Junior Republic in Pennsylvania seeks a Title I Reading Teacher. The teacher will serve youth who reside on the Grove City, PA, campus. The teacher will assist in providing students with the support, assessment, coaching, individually tailored learning experience, and consultation follow-up services needed for improved academic learning, increased student performance, and well-being.

Hours: This full-time position must schedule work hours to support the unmet needs of the students. Afternoon hours required.

Requirement:

1. Bachelor's degree and Reading Specialist Certification
2. Must be able to work with a diverse population of students
3. Must be able to stoop, walk, kneel, bend, and lift.

Assessment

• Determine the needs of referred students and design appropriate learning activities.
• Establish student goals for improvement.
• Measure student process using state standards

Records Management

• Maintain required records, reports, data collection procedures, continuous evaluation, and assessment of student progress.

Learning Environment and Teaching

• Create and maintain a safe learning environment that contributes to the fulfillment of needs, stimulation of learning and student self-concept in the nonpublic school setting.
• Devise innovative teaching methods, strategies, techniques and learning materials in an ongoing attempt to extend the possible approaches to increased student performance and well-being.
• Support the development of a successful reader.

Consultation and Communication

• Consult and collaborate, as needed, with treatment team, and other teachers.
• Communicate, consult, and conference with parents/direct care employees/treatment staff, and attend team meetings.
• Confer with program director and contribute to efforts for program improvement.

Compliance

• Ensure all parental and school permissions are obtained before working with persons served/students.

Professional Development

• Participate in professional development and ‘best practice’ activities.

Other

• Perform other duties as assigned and as directed by the director of the program.

Additional Requirements:

• Must be able to build a rapport with adjudicated delinquent and dependent youth admitted to GJR in PA.
• Must be able to communicate effectively.
• Must possess excellent interpersonal skills
• Must be able to make judgments and work under a high level of stress
