Standard Work Schedule: Hybrid Schedule (21 hours per week)

Salary Range: $34.29-$37.50/ hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Center for Justice at the Columbia School of Social Work (CSSW) is seeking a part-time Development Writer to aid in summarizing recent progress in the following areas of research study: justice beyond punishment, ending mass incarceration, and addressing state violence against marginalized communities. Reporting to the Center's Co-Director, the Development Writer will have primary responsibility for crafting public-facing documents and articles that detail the outcomes of the Center's research projects. The incumbent will be responsible for crafting compelling narratives that highlight the organization's progress in these critical areas. The Writer will support fundraising efforts, grant proposals, and public communications, helping to secure resources and build awareness for the Center's mission.

THIS POSITION IS 100% GRANT-FUNDED. CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT IS CONTINGENT UPON FUNDING AVAILABILITY.

Responsibilities

Collaborate closely with the Co-Director to formulate reports using current data, literature and reported outcomes.

Collect and synthesize data and research information to develop engaging narratives to be included in public-facing documents and articles that highlight recent leadership development and narrative change work and findings.

Develop engaging content for the Center's website to effectively communicate initiatives and outcomes.

Write and edit content that documents and promotes progress in transforming justice systems.

Develop grant proposals, donor communications, and reports that resonate with diverse audiences.

Collaborate with program teams to gather information and stories that showcase the Center's impact.

Partner with Center leadership to secure funding that helps to support and maintain program structure. Ensure that programs are compliant and meeting funder expectations.

Assist with the submission of funding renewals and reports

Support the Beyond the Bars conference to ensure that it meets funder and community expectations

Create and edit one-pagers, letters of inquiry and other related documents that are directly aligned with donor interests.

Prepare key language for End of Year solicitations and invitations for proposal

Ensure all written materials align with the Center's mission and values.

Other tasks as assigned by the Co-Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent related experience required.

2- 4 years of related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree, preferably in writing.

Published author.

Seasoned public speaker.

Other Requirements

The successful candidate will have excellent writing skills, a demonstrated commitment to social justice, and the ability to translate complex issues into engaging and accessible content.
