Job Description
Clinical Informatics Specialist II, plays a critical role in bridging the gap between clinical practice and information technology. Drive the implementation, optimization, and utilization of health information technology systems to enhance patient care delivery, improve clinical workflows, and facilitate data-driven decision-making. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of health information technology solutions that align with health care best practices and regulatory standards. Your expertise in clinical informatics will empower staff to use EHR and related systems proficiently and efficiently to improve patient safety, care delivery, and patient, family, and staff experience every day.
Qualifications: Minimum Education - Bachelor's degree in clinical or technology relevant area (e.g. nursing, pharmacy, medical research, bioinformatics, engineering, or related field). (Required)
- Master's degree in clinical or technology relevant area (e.g. nursing, pharmacy, medical research, bioinformatics, engineering, or related field). (Preferred)
Minimum Work Experience - 6 years of total combined related work experience and completed higher education (Required)
- 1 year of licensed health care practice, clinical consulting and/or other health information technology work experience. (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge - Strong understanding of clinical workflows, healthcare operations, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.
- Direct experience with EHR systems, clinical decision support tools, and healthcare information exchange (HIE) solutions.
- Familiarity with application of clinical informatics methodologies, human factors engineering, and user-centered design principles.
- Knowledge of healthcare data standards (HL7, CDA, FHIR) and healthcare terminologies (SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-10).
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including practicing clinicians and administrative staff.
- Project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Required Licenses and Certifications - Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT), or other clinical certification and work experience (Required)
- Clinical informatics (e.g. CPHIMS, AHIC, ACHIP) (Preferred)
- Oracle Cerner or other EHR certifications (Preferred)
Functional Accountabilities - Act as a liaison between clinical, operational, and IT departments, leveraging clinical knowledge to develop innovative solutions.
- Lead the strategic planning and execution of clinical informatics initiatives to support patient care, safety, and operational excellence.
- Collaborate with clinical and operational stakeholders, IT staff, and hospital leadership to identify opportunities for leveraging technology to improve clinical workflows and patient outcomes.
- Design, configure, test, and evaluate health information technology solutions, including EHRs and interfaced systems, clinical decision support tools, and other healthcare technologies with a continuous improvement approach.
- Apply workflow analysis, process mapping, and other clinical informatics methodologies to document current state functioning across clinical roles and patient care areas to capture and prioritize opportunities for gap closure and system and skill maintenance.
- Provide subject matter expertise to ensure the effective integration of health information technology systems and workflows.
- Collaborate with medical, nursing, pharmacy, laboratory, and other clinical informatics colleagues to execute health information technology system governance and enact effective change management.
- Partner with the Clinical Applications and Learning teams to ensure robust system testing, change control, and adoption.
- Participate in the assessment and selection of health information technology tools, applications, and platforms that align with the organization's clinical, operational, and business objectives.
- Monitor and evaluate the adoption and utilization of health information technology systems, identifying areas for improvement and implementing enhancements as needed.
- Participate in interdisciplinary teams to contribute to the development and enhancement of clinical protocols, guidelines, and best practices.
- Stay current with health information technology industry trends, regulatory requirements, and emerging methodologies in clinical informatics, sharing insights and recommendations with the organization.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior informatics specialists, fostering their growth and development.
