Job Description

Assistant Payroll Manager

Our client is seeking an Assistant Payroll Manager to be a key contributor to the payroll department. This role is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of multi-state union and non-bargaining employee payrolls. A successful candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a keen attention to detail, and a solid understanding of payroll regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Payroll Processing: Oversee the processing of multi-state union payroll on a weekly basis and semi-monthly payroll for non-bargaining employees. Ensure accurate and timely payroll data input, calculations, and distribution.
  • Compliance: Maintain a thorough understanding of federal, state, and local wage and hour laws. Ensure payroll processes adhere to all regulatory requirements.
  • Reporting: Prepare and distribute a variety of payroll reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end summaries. Conduct analysis of payroll data to identify trends and potential issues.
  • Data Management: Research and update labor rates to maintain payroll accuracy. Perform data entry, verification, and reconciliation tasks.
  • System Administration: Provide technical support, training, and troubleshooting for payroll systems. Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and system efficiency.
  • Financial Analysis: Prepare journal entries, reconcile payroll accounts, and provide general ledger support. Assist with annual 401k audit and ACA reporting.
  • Customer Service: Collaborate with project sites to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing. Provide excellent customer service to employees and internal stakeholders.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned, including special projects and backup support for the Payroll Manager and Union Payroll Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of payroll processing experience, including union and multi-state payroll.
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Salary: $80,000 - 100,000
